We are a constituted group of unpaid volunteers passionate about reducing food waste, landfill waste. We also wish to help prevent poverty and wellbeing decline by running our food and wellbeing exchange every Saturday.
We first started out during lockdown in 2020 in an outdoor location when food was hard to source due to people panic buying. Our exchange was located in an outdoor location and consisted of four plastic garden chests where food could be donated or taken from.
Since 2023, we re-established at the Place Activity Centre in Sherwood and proudly reopened our community food exchange on April the 6th 2024. Since then, we continue to run the Sherwood Exchange every other Saturday afternoon and we offer anybody the opportunity to visit us to donate unwanted food, clothing, toiletries and kids toys in exchange for fresh fruit and vegetables and store cupboard foods. We also have clothing, toiletries and toys and visitors can also visit to drop off unwanted clothing to ShareWear too.

Aside from our food exchange, we also host regular wellbeing activities at our Wellbeing Exchange which operates on weekly Saturdays from January until June, then from September to December every year. Sessions can range from Reiki to mindfulness to talks from local enthusiasts around wellbeing related subjects and a small donation to help us towards our running costs is always appreciated.

Slight fees increase for one basket of shopping
From 10th of January 2026, we will be increasing our food exchange fee to £2.00 to help towards paying our rent, and food and essential running costs.
We will reduce this to £1.00 in exchange for donations of store cupboard foods, toiletries, nappies and sanitary items or fruit and vegetables so please do raid your cupboards before you attend as we need these items for other people.
Please note that we are set up as a food exchange and NOT a food bank, and we need your donations to help save our expenditure on food and support sustainability and reduce environmental waste.
We are operating alongside Open Arms CIC who operate from Primary on Seeley Road, NG7 who operate when we are closed on Fridays from 11am till 12pm. They are set up as a food bank but will allow us to refer you to their service if you are worried about accessing food when we are note open. We can also refer you to HIMMAH and Mesopotamia food bank. Please ask and we will make these referrals to you.
Parking
Parking at the Place Community Centre is strictly reserved for session leaders, food deliveries, and those with a disability or blue badge. Please use nearby 2-hour spaces on Daybrook Street (by Samual Hall Weatherspoon’s) or short-term parking on Saint Albans Street and Woodville Drive (NG5 2HA/2GZ)—but avoid all-day parking in residential zones.
Dropping of items
Please only drop off items when we’re open so you can ensure you only pay £1 entry when you come to see us. We hire a room at the Place and get into trouble if people leave things for us as we have nowhere to store them and the centre is used by many other groups too!
