We’re a group of volunteers passionate about reducing household waste and promoting community sharing and recycling. We run a regular food, clothing, toiletries and children’s toys exchange on Saturday afternoons.

Alongside our regular food exchange, we host a warm and welcoming wellbeing café offering complimentary hot drinks and toast from 11.30 am–1.15 pm throughout the winter months. We also provide a range of supportive wellbeing activities designed to help people stay connected, resourced, and thriving during the colder season.

We first started out during lockdown in 2020 in an outdoor location when food was hard to source due to people panic buying. Our exchange was located in an outdoor location and consisted of four plastic garden chests where food could be donated or taken from.

Since 2023, we re-established at the Place Activity Centre in Sherwood and proudly reopened our community food exchange on April the 6th 2024. Since then, we continue to run the Sherwood Exchange every other Saturday afternoon and we offer anybody the opportunity to visit us to donate unwanted food, clothing, toiletries and children’s toys in exchange for fresh fruit and vegetables and store cupboard foods. We also have clothing, toiletries and toys and visitors can also visit to drop off unwanted clothing to ShareWear too.

Anybody can access the Sherwood Exchange although we do ask that you bring items to our exchange to add towards surplus food we get from local supermarkets and buy in from FareShare Midlands to ensure we have plenty of food and supplies for everyone.
We gladly accept the following items which in exchange for a basket of groceries and bag of clothing and/or children’s toys.

Entry fee

Every household can access 1 basket of shopping plus a bag of clothing and children’s toys for £2.00
We will reduce this fee to £1.00 if you bring an item to donate.
Please let us know if you are having difficulty affording this fee or food and our friendly team of volunteers will refer you to a food bank.
Please note we’re NOT a food bank, we are set up to encourage sharing and reduce food waste and have rent, food costs and other overheads to cover through funds raised through entry fees.
